CHAND AFTARA VILLAGE TEACHING PROJECT

Ways Around Seeing

‘Lots of great stimuli’

‘Nice to see children who often show lack of interest so engaged’

‘Great experience’

‘Very good, calm atmosphere’

‘Children engaged, attentive and calm’

The Chand Aftara Village Teaching ensemble are available for workshops on location where their activities involve taking art materials, instruments and equipment out into the public realm, be that public events, festivals, schools, charities community centres, organisations or corporate events, and engaging the public in making their own work of art.  In this sense the CAVT ensemble work as a traveling art school, bringing music, art and expertise to people.

The CAVT ensemble are a professional team of artists and tutors who deliver workshops in film, music, dance, visuals, animation, illustration, performance and other art. These workshops are designed to allow people to explore a particular media and make a work that they can take away with them. They can also be tailored to incorporate different themes or areas of school curriculum. In festivals and public events the workshops are often ‘drop-in’ allowing passers-by to try their hand at whatever activity is on offer. Workshops can accommodate between 10 and 15 participants at one time.

MULTI-SENSORY WORKSHOPS

The CAVT ensemble explores a variety of stimuli and approaches to creating movement, written text, music and visuals individually and in groups. Students focus on different elements of movement within dance and film composition and combine this with imagery and researched material. The workshop highlights rhythm and fluidity, through the interpretation of gestures and poetry. The CAVT ensemble’s multi-sensory approach enables them to work with a mixture of able-bodied children and children in wheelchairs, children with severe autism and children with a range of other conditions such as cerebral palsy and down syndrome. They also work with early years including key stage 1 to 6 as well as children with very severe communication and learning difficulties. The combination of music and visuals works well for them and often becomes an integral part of communication, as most of the children are non-verbal.

The learning outcomes are to engage students to produce art collectively and collaboratively and to share their ideas using distinct visual, sound and movement motifs. Students will essentially gain an enriched understanding of themselves through the process of conceiving an idea and seeing it through to the end. The final piece will be celebrated with a screening/performance at the end of the workshop to showcase their journey and achievements.

INTERACTIVE MUSIC & VISUAL WORKSHOPS

The aim of this workshop is to present a platform for young students to experience music, visuals and ways around seeing as one unit – to fill the space between learning and understanding, through the exploration of the four elements and representing this through performance, music and visuals. Performance will utilise cardiovascular activities exploring movement, gestures, patterns and mark making. The music element will focus primarily on improvisation, set text, sounds, sonics and words. Finally, the visuals will act as a third dimension to the experience by introducing students to slideshows of archival photographs of different regions and landscapes, which will act as an educational guide as well as a form of visual inspiration.

The workshop will aim to represent students of various cultures, abilities and personal experiences covering a broad range of subject areas including key stage subjects as well as performance and the visual arts, The CAVT ensemble seeks to enhance personal development for emotional, social, physical and mental well being within a group environment. The workshops will aim to promote creative learning and raise individual achievements.
